My Engagement ring is rated as VVS1 – but I see inclusions – HELP!?

I was recently given a 1.66 carat princess cut diamond ring. On the GIA Grading report, it states it as VVS1 which is:

“Very, Very Slightly Included: Very difficult to see inclusions under 10x magnification.”

My problem is that I can visibly see tiny ‘cloudy’ inclusions with my naked eye, let alone 10x magnification!

Can diamonds develop inclusions over time?
And is there any way to cross reference the actual diamond to the GIA report?

On a VVS1 you wouldn’t be able to see any flaws even with a 10X loupe. I have been in the jewelry industry for a lot of years and I couldn’t find the flaws in a diamon that high quality. The inclusions DO NOT develop over time, they are either there or not. Take into to have the stone appraised and GIA cetified gemologist. Not a Mall or chain store like Kay or Zales. You need to have a diamond that expensive appraised for insurance policies, a grading report is not an appraisal. Make sure that your diamond does not need to be cleaned, I know that sounds stupid and obvious but a lot of people forget to clean their diamonds properly.

Just FYI if you can visibly see the flaws in a dimond it has a quality of I1, I2, or I3 depending on how big and where they are. We are talking about a 1.66ct diamond roughly going from a $12,000-$15,000 for the VVS1 to $3,000-$5,000 for an I1/I2 diamond.
